Did a warning light appear on your Volvo car or SUV? While a warning light is never welcome, it could be alerting you to a number of things, some of which may not be all that bad. That being said, you should never ignore a warning light and should always contact your Volvo service center to figure out your next steps.
What Color is the Warning Light?
Volvo vehicles have warning lights in three colors, green, orange, and red.
- Green – Your vehicle is working correctly and alerting you of a driver assistance alert or infotainment issue.
- Yellow – Something isn't working right, but it's not a serious emergency. You should take extra care and have the issue checked out as soon as possible.
- Red – Stop driving as soon as it's safe! Something is seriously wrong and potentially dangerous.
Common Warning Lights in a Volvo Vehicle
Some of the most common warning lights your Volvo car or SUV may show include:
- Yellow Master Warning Light – This triangular light has an exclamation point on the inside, indicating that something isn't right. It normally comes with a message or a second light.
- Yellow Transmission Warning Light – This gear-shaped light has an exclamation point on the inside and indicates a fault in your transmission. It's best to drive as little as possible and contact a service center.
- Yellow Fuel Cap Warning Light – This car-shaped light has a gas cap coming out. It's an indicator that your fuel cap isn't tight.
- Red Brake Warning Light – This circle with an exclamation point inside indicates something is wrong with your brake system. You should pull over as soon as it's safe and contact your service center.
