My sixth Volvo. Electronics are just stupid.
By Volvo Guy | on Friday, January 19, 2018
Traded a 2012 XC60 for 2018 V-90 Cross Country. Drove it for about 1000 miles and returned it to dealer for a 2017 XC60 demonstrator with Certified Warranty. Got hosed financially in the deal, and dont even care. Love the 2017 XC60. Hated the 2018 V-90. Electronics were unreliable. Nav system would sometimes not load up, but would give circle of death loading sign until I shut everything down and started over. Would accept destinations, but then forget and make me reenter everything. Warning for lane changes on multi-lane highways were provided too late to actually make lane changes safely. Categories for search were not tuned to American driving and needs. Large screen was mostly a video-game-like distraction from actually driving the car. Radio would come on mysteriously after just opening driver side door to put groceries or brief case into car, but not starting it up. Various apps, especially Weather,Pandora, and Sirius would not load or would load and then fail to function--again until stopping car and starting all over again. (Sometimes even this would not fix the problems.) Stop/start override function for the engine when at stop lights or at rest required several different screens to operate. In the XC60 a simple push of one button on the console does the trick. Stop/start is dumb in any case. Should be a one-time choice of owner/driver, not something you have to select every time you operate the car. Repeated use of starter motor makes no sense at all. It also results in lag while system restarts that is annoying as can be. My 2017 XC60 is a fine car and allows the driver to actually drive without lots of IT and other distractions. Just drove it from CT to California and love it. It is likely to be my very last Volvo.… - 5.0
Big Upgrade from XC70 - Great Luxury Wagon
By Mark | on Sunday, December 09, 2018
Replaced a 2010 XC-70 T6 with 2017 V90 Cross Country. Power train with 316 hp engine and 8 speed transmission is vast improvement in driveability enhanced by ability to select and customize drive modes For daily commute in stop-and-go traffic, standard comfort mode is fine. On highway, I prefer dynamic engine setting (with higher transmission shift points) but medium effort steering. Took a while figuring out how to custom configure and have it auto-load profile. Forgiving suspension, good cornering with excellent emergency handling for a high ground clearance heavyweight, enormous sun/moonroof, front seat ergonomics, upgraded B&W surround sound system, environmental controls, and active safety systems are all simply outstanding. Electronic touch screen interface could be more intuitive and sometimes is slow to load. Apple car play with iPhone integration has been unmitigated pleasure. Only significant concern was cost of maintenance and repair so purchased an extended warranty. Only change I would make is auto-downshift when changing into manual gear selector mode like on Audi.… - 5.0
Great car, elegant design
By Tom | on Saturday, February 17, 2018
I wanted a vehicle to tow my boat, but I didnt want a SUV -- too bloated, tall and awkward. I found the V90 Cross Country. With the tow package, this vehicle fit the bill. I took delivery in Sweden. I drove the car around the land where it was born for a couple of weeks. Then they shipped it to the States. I have had it since December. The car is stable, has great visibility, handles well, it has AWD, is comfortable, elegant and well made. The ground clearance of 8.3 inches is a plus. I was concerned about the small block engine, but it turns out to be a non-issue. With the blowers on this engine, the AWD and the beautiful 8 speed transmission, the engine has plenty of power. The Sensus system takes some getting used to, but it becomes indispensable. There is a profile feature built in that allows one to permanently turn off the annoying start stop feature, for example. I have found the navigation system to be spot on. I have not had any electronics issues. I am more than pleased I purchased the V90 CC. Plan to keep this one for quite awhile. I may buy another Volvo in the near future.…
